Fighting COVID19 Naturally

Fighting COVID-19 naturally

With so much Corona virus overload in the media I think it’s time to take a breath.  Let’s face it, colds and viruses have been around for centuries.  Our immune systems are designed to cope, as long as they’re supported with the right ingredients.  There are lots of natural and inexpensive ways we can do this.

Remember, the vast majority of the population will cope just fine with COVID-19.   Instead of panic-buying toilet roll and increasing pressure on our planet, load your immune gun with some or all of these powerful immune boosters and you’ll be ready and primed if and when it comes along.

·       Vitamin C: Citrus - Lemons, limes, oranges, grapefruit.  Also, broccoli, capsicums, strawberries, tomatoes, potatoes

·       Zinc – development and function of immune-mediation cells such as neutrophils and Natural Killer cells (shellish, beef, red meats, nuts, legumes)

·       Richly coloured fruit and vegetables especially blue/purple/black – high in anti-oxidants – red cabbage, blueberries, blackberries, red lettuce, eggplant

·       Bone broth and pro-biotics – 70% of the immune function begins in the gut – optimal absorption of key nutrients is essential.

·       Allium family – Garlic, onions, chives reducing systemic inflammation

·       Ginger – a potent anti-inflammatory – make a hot drink with ginger, lemon and honey

·       Mushrooms – immune boosting and anti-inflammatory

·       Honey – powerful anti-bacterial agent

·       Apple Cider Vinegar – disinfectant support, internal and external support for resistant bacterial and viral strains – why not pop some in your next salad dressing?

·       Olive Oil – monounsaturated healthy fats to support the immune system

·       Good hydration and sleep to restore the immune system.

One of the biggest complications with CoVid19 is when the infection travels to the lungs causing mucous build ups causing pneumonia.  Here are some tips to prevent it.

·       N-Acetyl Cysteine – thins mucous and reduces severity of coughs – seek advice on practitioner-only supplements – do not buy over the counter or online without professional advice.

·       Green tea, herbal teas – liquorice, echinacea, ginseng

·       Warm water, steam – will loosen mucous in your chest preventing viral agents reaching the lungs

·       Essential oils and diffusers – opening up airways – eucalyptus, peppermint, tea tree, thyme, oregano.  Place a few drops on a hanky and inhale when needed.

·       Salt water gargling can remove phlegm and mucous from the back of the throat

·       Elevate the head and chest promoting mucous drainage.
